The entirety of the trail is dirt singletrack, and it goes through some of the oldest forest in the North Chickamauga Creek watershed.

The creek is available for kayaking and canoeing. The West Chickamauga Creek flows through a significant portion of Walker County, adding an aquatic view to the scenic foliage. The horse trailer area is located on the west side of the park along Chickamauga-Vittetoe Road, and is the only place where horses may be unloaded and trailers parked. At Chickamauga, horseback riding is permitted on the Red, White, and Blue trails as indicated on the Chickamauga Battlefield Trail Map.
