Edwards and Fiorentinto are great. Of course, some things seem very odd, especially looking at it from a post-9/11 point-of-view. It neatly avoids being like so many of those needless flesh fests with a minimum of that kind of silliness coupled with a witty and entertaining script and likeable, enjoyable characters.This really was Linda Fiorentino's year and she was eminently suitable for the role of a more experienced woman to play against a naiive leading man, having done so well doing precisely that in "Vision Quest", her previous role.
Linda Fiorentino plays the sexy spy, Sasha. This is also like the holy bible for paintball players.

I note that this film was based upon the college game of Assassin which used paint-ball guns, and that there is now a successor to this game called StreetWars created in 2004 which uses water pistols and which has been held in New York, San Francisco, Chicago, London and Paris. Yes, it's dumb, but still entertaining (apart from the dull first half hour). And was promptly disappointed. In the mid to late 80s, there was a sign in the design studios at Gotcha which read: 'We aren't just selling clothes, we're selling culture. ". This film has been unfairly condemned by those who are not fans of this type of game. It's very close to being a better movie, possibly due to Anthony Edwards not being a great lead - he's good at playing dimwitted and innocent but often comes off as a shitty dude which doesn't make for a great mix at the center of your movie.
Fortunately (and rather predictably), the well armed Communist agents are not as adept at the game of Gotcha! investigate the murder on a stripper in Vegas.

I recommend this movie to everybody who likes 'cold 80's movies'. If Kazaam were to come crashing through my wall like the Kool-Aid man and grant me three wishes, my first point of order would be to retroactively give Anthony Edwards the career he deserved.

When I first saw this I couldn't wait to get into college and play paintball...and when, over a decade later, I actually did go off to college I played paintball once and then switched to Disc Golf and Ultimate Frisbee. Awards In my book, Gotcha! Noneless, it's easy to suspend disbelief for a couple of hours to enjoy this fun film. It’s pretty gross seeing a buncha campus guys shooting each other with realistic looking hand guns though. or people who think John Lennon is buried in Lenin's Tomb. Landed right down the middle for me - seemed like the pacing lacked for a lot of people but it was able to keep my attention throughout. Everything is going well, until they travel to East Berlin where he learns she is not all that she seems. Gotcha!
i checked the synopsis on my cable box, it looked good, so i watched. and thrilling on-the-run scenarios. This beauty became one of my earliest cinematic crushes, and the one that gave me my lifelong attraction to short haired women.
