The total cost of this trip was over $1,000 because of hotel rooms, car rental, gas, train tickets, etc. This loop in the tracks, completed in 1898, coupled with a double âSâ curve near Jasper, Georgia gave the old line its nickname of the Hook and Eye Line. This would definitely have been a 5-star trip for us had it not been for all that money spent only to be stuck in such unfortunate seats. $400 is far too much to spend for 2 of our party to have ABSOLUTELY NO VIEW for the entire 8 1/2 hour train ride and the other 2 only having a very limited view. In 1902 the Louisville and Nashville (L&N) Railroad took ownership of the Old line and in 1906 the designation "Old Line" took hold. From here, you can continue on the John Muir Trail or take the Coker Creek Trail. We paid $380 for 4 seats.
