Each session includes meditation instruction and teaching on how meditation and Zen relate to daily life. The class will present concepts of "bearing witness", "8 core emotions", "cognitive distortions", and "needs awareness". If you are new to Zen Buddhism or the Center, you may want to attend the Introduction to Meditation class before you begin coming to these regularly scheduled meditation sessions.

This retreat will explore in depth the Noble Eightfold Path (the final part of the Four Noble Truths laid out by the Buddha in his first sermon following his awakening). Introductory Meditation Course & Beginner's Zen Retreat The Regular Introductory Meditation Course takes five Tuesday or Thursday evenings (Ann Arbor & Toronto) or four Tuesday evenings (Chicago & New York City).Beginner's Zen Retreat runs from Friday evening at 7 pm through Saturday at noon with an overnight stay at the temple.

This brief retreat includes both guided and silent meditation as well as an introduction to the basics of traditional Zen forms, sitting and walking meditation, and a short dharma talk. We are keeping the situation under review but it seems that we must expect disruption to residential events to continue well into next year. As a result, partial scholarships are always available for any of our programs or offerings. Finding clarity can help you discern what is important and what is not.
