The success of the venture has led to Waverley visiting the Bristol Channel for a month before the main summer season and for a week in late Autumn each year since.
We currently operate 30 daily sailings on our route from Dover to Calais all year round. With 3 relaxing routes to France, itâs easier than ever to visit the landscapes and historic cities of this amazing country. The routes connect the UK with 3 ports across The Channel including Dieppe, Dunkirk and Franceâs main port, Calais. There was also a ferry crossing the river in the 20th century, which closed in 1966. There was also a reported engine breakdown where the ferry took two hours to repair whilst drifting all the time down the Bristol Channel with the outward tide, and after the engine was repaired it took hours to return to Aust. The long term aim of the Severn Princess Restoration Group is to return the vessel to a state where it can sit as a permanent heritage display at the site.
